The session will begin on January 31 with the Address of President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament in the Lok Sabha chamber. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Budget on Saturday (February 1). The announcement came from President Donald Trump on a day he warned India of retaliation if “high tariffs continued to harm American interests”. Trump announced Modi’s visit to the US after they spoke on the phone on Monday. This would mark the first engagement between the two leaders following the change of guard at the White House. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
