OC LIQUOR SMUGGLER ARRESTED Phagwara: The police have arrested a 'liquor smuggler' and seized 48 bottles of illicit liquor from him. The accused, identified as Ramu of Andhra Pradesh presently residing near Law Gate, Miherru, was nabbed at a check point. A case under the Punjab Excise Act has been registered against the accused. OC COUPLE KILLED IN ACCIDENT Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a vehicle driver on a charge of killing a migrant couple in an accident. Ravi Muni, a Bihar native, presently living at Sangowal Tibbe village, complained to the police that a vehicle hit his brother Sushila Muni and his wife Rekha Kumari near Billa village, who died on the spot. A case of the BNS has been registered against the driver. OC 2 BOOKED FOR THEFT FROM SHOP Phagwara: The police have booked two Moga villagers on the charge of stealing electrical items from a shop. The accused have been identified as Chamkaur Singh of Kartar Colony, Moga, and his brother Titu Singh. Charanjit Singh of Mahunwal village complained to the police that the accused stole electrical items from his shop on December 3 night. Man opens fire at rival group members, two injured Tribune News Service Jalandhar, December 15 In a shocking incident, members of two rival groups had a fight and one opened fire at two persons, leaving them seriously injured in Mota Singh Nagar. The incident took place around 3 pm today. The accused has been identified as Shivam and the injured are Hani and Karanvir Singh. Both of them suffered bullet injuries on leg and head. As per information, both groups have had an old rivalry and Shivam had reportedly called Hani and Karan for compromise on some old matter. SHO, Division 6, said the investigation was on. “Once we nab the accused and record the statement, things will get cleared,” the SHO said. This incident has certainly shocked the city residents. Already, the campaigning for the MC elections are going on and leaders and supporters are out there. This incident has raised questions on the security of the city residents. Recently, the State Election Commissioner had visited the city to review arrangements. Almost all city spaces, main roads, chowk and thoroughfares witness the posters. Additionally, the main chowks of the city see huge hoardings of candidates with folded hands, flanked by area party in-charges and leaders. Even in streets and interiors of colonies have hoardings by all political parties — AAP the Congress and , the BJP . The GT Road, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, Pucca Bagh, PPR Market, Urban Estate, 120-feet Road among other areas are dotted with the party posters. While there are 85 wards in the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, not a single ward has been spared. Despite the directions of the Election Commission, the previously put up No foul play in 23 cows’ death, says SP Our Correspondent PHAGWARA, DECEMBER 15 According to post-mortem report of Gadvasu, Ludhiana, urea content in the fodder being fed to cows was behind the death of 23 head of cattle at Phagwara. It was disclosed by SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti to mediapersons. SP Bhatti said the matter was more of lack of knowl- edge of gaushala members while feeding the cows rather than an intentional act of. She further stated that the roots of fodder contained high level of urea, leading to high nitrate contents in the feed, which resulted in frothy bloating of cows due to respiratory stress. She further read the concluding part of the post-mortem report which stated as under:- Rupinder Kaur Bhatti “It was concluded that the primary reason of death was frothy bloat which was aggravated by already present respiratory stress due to pneumonia and high rated cyst in the lungs. All these got more complicated due to presence of nitrate in the fed fodder. The resultant condition which started with frothy bloath ended up with respiration and consequent death due to hypoxy respiratory failure”. Five guarantees by AAP for Phagwara Our Correspondent PHAGWARA,DECEMBER 15 The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched its election campaign for the Phagwara Municipal Corporation elections. Punjab party president Aman Arora announced five major guarantees for the development of Phagwara and said once the party comes to power in the municipal corporation, these promises will be fulfilled on a priority basis. Arora visited Phagwara to launch the party’s campaign for the municipal elections. He was accompanied by AAP MLA Jasbir Gill, Sunny Ahulwalia, Lok Sabha incharge Harinder Bakshi . Addressing a press conference , he unveiled five guarantees for the people of Phagwara. The press conference was attended by senior party leaders, officials and many councillor candidates. Highlighting the importance of these guarantees, Aman Arora said these guarantees are not just promises, but commitments to the people. He assured that as soon as AAP’s Mayor assumes office, work on fulfilling these guarantees will begin. The five guarantees are : 50 electric buses with charging stations To combat rising pollution and improve public transportation, the party has guaranteed the launch of 50 electric buses across the city, supported by modern charging stations. Arora stated that like other growing cities, Phagwara too needs solutions for pollution and public transport. Electric buses will be operated, and local bus depots and charging stations will be set up for this purpose. Baba Gadhia Stadium to be upgraded Arora emphasized that to encourage youth participation in sports and promote the sports culture, Baba Gadhia Stadium will be upgraded to state-level standards. For this, the municipal corporation will receive separate financial assistance from the government. Gurdwara Sukhchain Road to be heritage route Addressing the religious sentiments of the local people, Aman Arora announced that Gurudwara Sukhchain is a renowned religious site with deep emotional connect among the people. After AAP’s mayor comes to power, the beautification of c m y b Gurudwara Sukhchain Road will be undertaken and it will be declared a heritage route. ~50 cr STP To address the city’s sewage problems and blockages, Arora announced the establishment of an STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) at a cost of ?50 crore. Apart from this, a complaint cell has also been set up at the DC office where anyone can lodge their complaint.” The DC added, “The hoard- ings, especially on government property, are being removed immediately. Since there are over 400 candidates across Jalandhar, many hoardings have come up. However, action is being taken regularly by the teams as soon as a complaint is received on the issue.” Nakodar hotel owner booked for immoral trafficking Our Correspondent PHAGWARA, DECEMBER 15 The owner of a Nakodar hotal has been booked for allegedly running an immoral trafficking. Nakodar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhpal Singh told media that the accused had been identified as Sukhwindar Singh, a resident of Atti village, under Goraya police station who owns the B and B hotel. Nakodar City Station House Officer Aman Saini said the police had received information that the accused booked rooms for their clients for immoral activities. The SHO said a case under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act has been registered against the accused, seized documents and further investigations are on. Man duped of ~6.50 lakh by ‘nephew’ Jalandhar, December 15 A 45-year-old man from Mukandpur, Nawanshahr, was duped of Rs 6.50 lakh by an unidentified person, who impersonated his nephew. In a complaint registered with cyber crime department, the victim, identified as Ram Suchit, said he got a call from an unknown number some days ago. “When I answered the call, the man talking on the phone identified as my nephew. He convinced me that he was my nephew and said he was in Doha, Qatar, and was kidnapped by some travel agents. He sounded panicked and also asked me to transfer Rs 6.50 lakh in his account so that he could be saved,” the victim said in his statement. He further added that the man also asked him not to talk about this to anyone. “First, I transferred Rs 1 lakh on his account and then he gave me 2-3 more account numbers and asked me to transfer money in them and I followed him not knowing the fact that I was getting duped,” he said. The case under Section 318 of the BNS Act and 66 of the IT Act has been registered against the accused. — TNS The site at a field from where a transformer was stolen. 3 transformers stolen from fields Tribune News Service Jalandhar, December 15 Thieves stole three transformers from farmers’ fields at Raipur Gujran in Mehatpur. A 10 KW transformer was stolen from farmer Shamsher Singh’s field and transformers were also stolen from his neighbor Wazir Singha and Amarjit Singh’s field. Kirti Kisan Union district leader Rajinder Singh Mand, tehsil president former sarpanch Bachan Singha and secretary Ratan Singh said the thieves’ had become so fearless of law that in one night, they laid their hands on three power transformers. Even though there is traffic at the toll plaza near the fields throughout the night, it couldn’t deter the miscreants. They said earlier there used to be a police checkpoint but it had been removed in the past one year. The leaders of the union have demanded from the police that the theft of transformers from farmers’ fields creates a crisis for farmers. The thieves should be nabbed immediately.
