The accused has identified as Bikramjit Singh of Parjian Kalan village in Ludhiana, and his accomplices. Gurcharan Singh of Gounsuwal village had complained to the police that the accused and his four accomplices had attacked him on May 11, seriously injuring and threatened him with dire consequences brandishing firearms. A case was registered against the accused. OC MURDER ACCUSED YET TO BE HELD Phagwara: The police have yet to arrest two murder accused, who have been on the run for 22 years. They had allegedly murdered a local jeweller Mimik. Janak Raj of Sufi Mohalla, Railway Road, Nakodar, who was employed at a jewellery shop, along with his accomplice Sonu of Ferozepur, were declared proclaimed offenders. The trial court had, however, acquitted one of their accomplices. Janak had a scuffle with Mimik and his father in January 2002 after which Janak and his accomplices attacked them with knives. The cost of the sewage treatment plant at Dhilwan will be Rs 6.99 crore and at Nadala Rs 10.50 crore. The work on these plants was inaugurated by Aam Aadmi Party incharge Advocate Harsimran Singh. He said the plant at Dhilwan had a capacity of 2 MLD, which will clean the sewage water of the entire Dhilwan and directly benefit the population of 10,000 . The sewage treatment plant at Nadala had a capacity of one MLD and will benefit about 8,000. Through this, the water of Nadala town will be cleaned and made suitable for irrigation. The unsanitary conditions have turned the locality into a breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes, raising concerns about the spread of diseases. Residents say that the life has become unbearable, with complaints made to the authorities yielding no response. Serving as an IT project manager with Ernst and Young, this athlete-cumtrained mountaineer is keeping his passion alive by increasing his difficulty level in every new expedition. “Situated in a close vicinity to Mt Everest, Mt Ama Dablam is a technical peak. I say so as it requires a lot of training and practice to climb such difficult peaks. It required a good hold of rock, snow and ice craft.” Sharing his experience, he said, “I was leading a team of 12 international climbers, all from different backgrounds and varied experience levels. Of course, all of us could not make it to the summit but I was among the lucky few. It would really help if I had some support from sponsors.” Jalandhar, November 26 In a renewed effort to enhance public safety and curb traffic violations, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police had conducted a special drive under the supervision of Harshpreet Singh, ACP West. The operation was carried out between November 22 and 25 from 12 noon to 3pm, with a dual focus on addressing traffic offences and tackling eve-teasing incidents in the city. The initiative saw a coordinated effort by the SHO of Police Station Division Number 5, the Emergency Response System (ERS) Zone 2 in-charge and the Field Media Team (FMT). Checkpoints were strategically set up near Basant Model Co-Ed School and Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Basti Sheikh to ensure a secure environment for women, girls and the public. During the drive, 160 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 37 challans issued for violations. These included cases of vehicles operating without proper number plates, triple riding on two-wheelers, riding without helmets and driving without a valid licence. Moreover, seven vehicles lacking valid documents were impounded as part of the operation. The Commissionerate Police emphasised that the drive was part of their broader commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order in the city. Civil Surgeon office clerk held in DA case Hoshiarpur, November 26 The Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Jaswinder Singh, a clerk posted in the office of the Registrar of Births and Deaths, Civil Surgeon office, Hoshiarpur, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. An official spokesperson for the VB said the arrest followed a thorough investigation stemming from a Vigilance inquiry. He added that accused Jaswinder Singh of Gobind Nagar, Hoshiarpur, was found to have incurred expenditures amounting to Rs 1,23,13,727 during the period from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2016. However, his total income during this period was Rs 88,15,520, leaving an unexplained excess expenditure of Rs 34,98,207. He further said the disproportionate assets had been categorised as illicit wealth under the Prevention of Corruption Act. — OC
