It was challaned for blacktinted windows. The vehicle was intercepted near Kaki Pind Gurdwara Sahib, where it was being taken to pick up the groom. The police confirmed that all windows of the limousine were covered with black film, which is prohibited. The car was stopped and, upon inspection, no valid documents permitting the modification were presented. At the time of the challan, only the driver was present in the car. The police arrested Baldev Singh of Mulewal Bahmanna village for burning stubble. The Mehatpur police have also booked a villager Tarlochan Singh of Pandori Khas village. OC ONE DIE, ANOTHER HURT IN MISHAPS Hoshiarpur: One person was killed and another injured in road accidents on the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road during the last 24 hours. The police have registered cases. Harpreet Kaur of Purana Prithvi Nagar, Jalandhar, told the police that her father was going towards Hoshiarpur from Phagwara on a bike. When he reached near a petrol pump located near Mehtiana, another bike rider hit him. Due to severe head injury, his father died. The police have registered a case against the driver Saurabh. In the second case, Rajat told the police that his father was returning from work. When he reached the Phagwara road, a vehicle hit him, leaving his father seriously injured. Shift Vikaspuri dump: PPCB to MC Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 25 Taking cognizance of a complaint filed by Sumit Kalia, a resident of Ambika Colony here, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has urged the Municipal Corporation (MC) to address the concerns of a massive garbage dump on Vikaspuri Tanda Road. Residents from Vikaspuri, New Vikaspuri, Ambika Colony, Guru Ram Dass Nagar and Santokh Pura Navi Abadi, in their complaint, have highlighted that they have been grappling with the hazardous conditions caused by the dump, which has been triggering protests in the area as well. They said they had been demanding the relocation of the dump to a non-residential area, citing health and safety concerns, however, nothing had happened, thus, they were forced to take their complaint to the PPCB and the NGT. Addressing the grievance, the PPCB wrote to the Municipal Commissioner, emphasising the need for immediate action in compli- ance with the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016. In a letter forwarded to the MC Commissioner, the PPCB Environmental Engineer highlighted that the matter fell under the MC’s jurisdiction. They have not given us any permanent solu- TWO ARRESTED FOR SNATCHING Hoshiarpur: The police have arrested two persons for snatching purses of two women. The accused have been identified as Prashant Singh, a resident of Adarsh Colony, Piplanwala, and Sandeep Singh, a resident of Kamalpur. The accused had snatched purses from Deepmala of Ramdas Nagar from Prabhat Chowk and Sunita Agarwal of Ludhiana from Medicine Market. PHAGWARA, NOVEMBER 25 Continuing its crackdown on absconding criminals, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two more proclaimed offenders (POs) who had been evading arrest for several years. The arrests come as part of a special drive against fugitives, under which 57 POs have been nabbed in the past three months. The accused have been identified as Gopi of Toti village falling under Sultanpur Lodhi police station in Kapurthala district and Surjit Singh, alias Ladi, of Sindhar village under Lohian police station. SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the operation was executed under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP , Shahkot, Onkar Singh Brar. “Our teams have been working meticulously to track these fugitives who had been changing locations to avoid the arrest,” said Khakh. The police teams were led by the SHO, Mehatpur police station, and SHO, Lohian police station. Using technical surveillance and human intelligence, the teams successfully traced and apprehended both accused in coordinated raids. According to police records, Gopi was booked under Sections 21-61-85 of the NDPS Act at Shahkot police station in October 2019. The second accused, Surjit Singh, was tion. During a press conference that was held by the committee some time ago, members said they were unable to live in such conditions. “Come to the place and no one will be able to stand for even five minutes there. An unbearable stench emanates from the area all the time. Reptiles, mosquitoes and other insects have made the situation worse,” they said. This is not the first time they raised this issue that has been troubling them. Residents of the Model Town area had also held a candlelight march. They had said the march was held in the memory of those who lost their lives due to problems arising from the dump site. Dr Ravjot Singh stated that the work on the IPHL would be completed at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore. There would be a seating capacity up to 100 persons. He said once this laboratory became operational, between 40,000 and 50,000 tests would be done in a month, which would be immensely beneficial for the people of the region. Referring to a media query, Dr Ravjot reiterated that the government was committed to further providing better and quality healthcare services to the people across the state as well as resolving the issue of shortage of staff by recruiting doctors, paramedical and laboratory staff. He said the government would hand over appointment letters to 24 house surgeons and empanelled doctors on Tuesday for Hoshiarpur at local Civil Surgeon Office to further deliver quality healthcare services in the district. On being asked about the proposed medical college at Hoshiarpur, MLA Bram Shanker Jimpa said the tender process had already been completed while the construction on this project would be started shortly. The victims belonged to two migrant families living in adjacent rooms, the police said. All seven injured were admitted to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara. Senior Medical Officer Dr Lehimber Ram said the victims were being treated and remained under observation. The injured were identified as Amit Kumar, his wife Arti Kumari, and their two-monthold daughter Anushaka The injured were taken to a hospital at Phagwara on Monday. Kumari. Four minor daughters of Kumar’s neighbour Babu also sustained burns in the incident. The injured Amit said the fire started from the kitchen of the house. It spreadquickly, giving little time for the families to run. Two of the injured have been shifted to the Civil Hospital due to their serious condition.
