Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 24 With the announcement of the MC elections going to be held in December, interested candidates have started campaigning on their own. They have been reaching out to voters of their wards. Balraj Thakur, senior Congress leader and a five-time councillor from his ward, said, “Although I remained in touch with my ward members, now with the announcement, I have started asking them to vote for us in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections,” he said. “Even if I have an experience of several years, it doesn’t mean that I will sit. ‘Loka naal milan di zarurat te hamesha paindi hai,’” he said. It has become a major challenge for the Congress as almost all party councillors switched the sides. It will be difficult for the party to find trustworthy candidates. Those who left the Congress enjoyed respect and trust among residents in their wards because of the work they did, so it can be a painstaking task for the Congress to give reliable faces. Jagdish Samrai, a former councillor, who was earlier with the Congress and had then join AAP was also hold, ing meetings, meeting people and organising camps for the people of his ward. “Today also I visited several households and this process will continue. I have been highlighting my achievements,” he added. Another councillor from AAP who also left the Con, gress a year ago, is not sure if the party will give him the ticket. “If this happens, I will fight independently. And I have already started doing preparation for the same. People have seen my work and they will vote for me,” he said.
