Sec 26 Sec 19 AM HY Chandigarh, November 16 Raising a question over swapping of land with the Haryana Government, the UT Urban Planning Department has claimed that the Chandigarh Master Plan-2031 does not provide any policy to allow such exchange of land. Last year, a team of the department had visited the 12-acre site offered to the UT Administration in lieu of 10 acres to be provided for the Haryana Vidhan Sabha building. The department had then written to the UT Deputy Commissioner that the parameters of the two pieces of land are not comparable from approach and town planning points of view. The department further stated that a natural drain was passing through the Haryana site, which bifurcated it into two. Also, it may not be possible to construct anything in the vicinity of the significantly wide natural drain. The victim has been identified as Milli Goel, a resident of Sector 8, Panchkula. Sources said, Goel had checked into the hotel on November 12 with a female friend, also a Panchkula resident, who left the following day. Goel was staying in the same room where she was found unconscious today. The hotel staff rushed her to the GMSH-16, where she was declared dead on arrival. A team from the Sector 17 police station reached the spot on getting information and initiated a probe. A forensic team also visited the scene for investigation. P’kula MC to set up garbage sorting unit at Alipur village Panchkula, November 16 After years of protests and demonstrations, residents of the areas adjoining the Jhuriwala dumping ground will be able to breathe clean air as the Municipal Corporation is planning to set up a material recovery facility (MRF) on 3.5 acres at Alipur village, 18 km from the city. The garbage generated in Panchkula city will be segregated at the centre and later transported to different plants for processing. With the implementation of the project, the MC aims to clear the Jhuriwala dumping ground. The Rs 2.47 crore project will include 800 compost pits, a students in various universities across the world. The decision would bring a bad name to India at the international level, he said. Man dies in bee attack at Sec 16 Chandigarh, November 16 In a tragic incident, a 50-yearold man died after being attacked by a swarm of bees in Sector 16 here this evening. The victim, identified as Munna Tiwari of Nayagaon, was riding a bicycle when he was stung multiple times by bees. The police reported that Munna, a gardener employed in Sector 21, was on his way home from work when he was attacked on the slip road along the stretch separating Sectors 16 and 11 around 3 pm. In an attempt to escape the attack, he rushed towards an auto-rickshaw. The auto driver, noticing his critical condition, rushed him to the GMSH, Sector 16. However, the victim was declared dead on arrival. Sources said few passers-by were also stung.
