Jalandhar, November 16 In a surprising turn of events, the police solved an over two-year-old car theft case during a routine checking on the Chief Minister’s route in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. The breakthrough came on November 13 when DSP Pritpal Singh from the 75th Battalion, PAP Jaland, har, noticed a suspiciously parked white Brezza car near the Kotbhai police station. What caught DSP Singh’s attention was the car’s number plate, which lacked the mandatory serial number, raising doubts about its authenticity. Acting on the suspicion, he ran a check on the car’s registration details and contacted the registered owner, a lawyer from Ludhiana. The lawyer informed him that the original Registration Certificate (RC) had been stolen some time ago, and he had since obtained a new one. The vehicle was then immediately moved to the Kotbhai police station for further investigation. Under the instructions of Avtar Singh, DSP Gidderba, Jasveer Singh, a detailed examination of the car’s chassis and engine number was conducted by the police. The investigation revealed that the car had been reportedly stolen in March 2022 from Hoshiarpur. A theft case under Section 379 of the IPC had been registered at that time at the Model Town police station, Hoshiarpur. The rightful owner, who had reported the theft over two years ago, was contacted and informed about the recovery of his car. Overwhelmed with joy, the owner and his family expressed their gratitude to the police. The car was formally handed over to the owner today after the completion of legal formalities and securing court orders. In addition, a fresh FIR has been registered against an unknown person under Section 317(2) and 341(2) of BNS for using a fake number plate on the stolen car. Number plate raises cop’s suspicion, helps solve car theft case Where leaders turn dreams into reality ADMISSION NS OPEN Sewer water overflows in front of Dilkusha Market in Jalandhar. PHOTO: SARABJIT SINGH Overflowing sewage in market raises alarm amid dengue threat Avneet Kaur Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 16 Dilkusha Market, the city’s bustling medical hub, is facing a severe sanitation crisis, with overflowing sewage creating unhygienic conditions for both visitors and shop owners. This comes at a time when the city is grappling with a dengue outbreak, with over 100 cases already reported so far. Despite health risks, the municipal corporation (MC) has failed to address the issue, leaving residents frustrated and vulnerable to vector-borne diseases. Stagnant sewer water has been accumulating in the market for the last many days, posing both safety and health hazards. Shop owners and visitors struggle to navigate through filth, which has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. “Stagnant water is a major health risk for everyone here. Customers are hesitant to visit our shops. This is affecting our business,” said Rajesh Mehta, a medical store owner. He said, “If this water ❝Stagnantrisk foris a major health everyone here. Customers are hesitant to visit our shops. This is affecting our business. If this is the situation without rain, imagine how bad it will get when the sky opens up. ❞ Rajesh Mehta, MEDICAL STORE OWNER is the situation without rain, imagine how bad it will get when the sky opens up.” While sharing similar concerns, visitors criticised the corporation’s failure to take steps to stop the flow of sewer water in the marked. “Health teams claim to be raising awareness about dengue, but they ignore breeding grounds right in front of them. What’s the point of campaigns if nothing is done on the ground?” asked Neha Sharma, a shopper. Another visitor, Vinod Kumar, said, “This market is vital for medical needs, yet it’s neglected. The MLAs make promises to upgrade the city, but nothing has improved.” Shopkeepers and residents worry that the predicted rainfall in the coming days would worsen the situation. “The MC must act immediately to prevent the problem from escalating. If the drainage system can’t handle sewage in dry weather, we can’t imagine how unbearable the situation will become if it rains,” said a concerned store owner. Meanwhile, Dilkusha Market’s plight is part of a broader issue affecting the city, where heaps of garbage and poor drainage system has persisted for years’ altogether. Despite repeated promises by elected leaders, the situation remains unchanged. Residents accuse the MC of failing to deliver on its commitments, leaving basic infrastructure to deteriorate. The civic body authorities, meanwhile, assured that they would instruct officials concerned to visit the site and take necessary steps at the earliest. c m y b 2025-26 PRE-NURSERY to IX & XI Age criteria for Pre-Nursery: 2+ years as on 31st March 2025 Apeejay Schools, Jalandhar KEY HIGHLIGHTS Merit-cum-Means and several other scholarships available NEP 2020 aligned curriculum Excellent results in CBSE Exams and other reputed competitive exams like JEE/NEET/CLAT etc. Value-based education ingrained in curriculum State-of-the-art Infrastructure Research-based thematic learning for holistic development Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg +91-9529795297, 0181-2458546, 2453608 www.apeejay.edu/jalandhar Apeejay School, Model Town +91-8872020079, 0181-2271743 www.apeejay.edu/modeltown Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Model Town +91-8872020088 www.apeejay.edu/modeltown Apeejay School, Rama Mandi +91-8872020402, 0181-2410253 www.apeejay.edu/hoshiarpur Apeejay School, Tanda Road +91-8872020096, 0181-2297805 www.apeejay.edu/tandaroad *After Class VIII, students can continue to pursue their school education in our parent school at Mahavir Marg.
