They entered the house after breaking locks, ransacked it and took away valuables from the house. Surinder Kumar told the police that he was working as labourer in crematorium at Banga Road, Phagwara, and found his house burgled and found cash of Rs 50,000, one gold ring and brass utensils from his house stolen. The police have registered a case. OC 5 BOOKED FOR ASSAULT Phagwara: The police have booked five villagers on the charge of assaulting a covillager. The accused have been identified as Sukhjit Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Jugraj Singh, Varinder Singh and Jas Rai, all residents of Kakarr Kalan village. Harjit Singh of the same village complained to the police that the accused attacked him with weapons and seriously injured him on October 20 and threatened him with dire consequences. A case under the BNS has been registered against the accused. OC FOUR BOOKED FOR CRIMINAL TRESPASS Phagwara: The police have booked four persons, including a couple, for criminal trespass, intimidation and committing the crime with common intention. Nakodar DSP Sukhpal Singh said the accused had been identified as Lakhwindar Singh of Billi Chao village, his wife Sukhwindar Kaur, and their two accomplices. Baljit Kaur complained to the police that the accused razed the ceiling of the cattle shed to encroach it on November 12. A case has been registered against the accused. OC VILLAGERS BOOKED FOR THEFT Phagwara: The Nakodar police have booked two villagers for stealing iron items from a plot. The accused have been identified as Nirmal Singh of Bundala village and his brother Bhupindar Singh. Balwindar Singh of Aadarsh Nagar, Nakodar, complained to the police that the accused stole iron pipes, plates and barbed wire from his plot on September 9. A case under the BNS has been registered after inquiry. Drug racket busted, three arrested with 14 quintals of poppy husk Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 15 The Jalandhar Commissionerate has busted a drug racket with the arrest of three persons and the seizure of 14 quintals of poppy husk and two vehicles. Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma said on a tip off, a police team had laid a naka near Adda Thabalke, where they spotted an SUV (PB-09-Q-4590) coming at high speed towards the Jamsher-Jandiala Road gate. The vehicle was followed by another vehicle. He said when the SUV was signalled to stop, the driver applied brakes, causing the vehicle following it to collide with the SUV. Sharma said during investigation, persons in the SUV Chess not a task for daughter of poor farmer now identified themselves as Guravtar Singh, alias Tari, of Bhode village of Phillaur and Des Raj of Dharam Singh Diyan Channa near Mehatpur. He said when the vehicles were checked, a total of 55 plastic bags each containing 20 kg poppy husk were found loaded in the SUV. An FIR under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Sadar, Jalandhar, and the accused were arrested. Jalandhar, November 15 The owner of City Medical Hall lost his life as fire engulfed his house in New Jawahar Nagar in the early hours of Friday. The fire reportedly spread from the lamp lit up in a small temple set up in the house. Atul Sood, who owned the store near Nehru Garden Chowk, reportedly died because of asphxiation and his body was spotted by a Fire Department team from his washroom. His wife Monica was found in an unconscious state in her room. The couple has three children - two daughters and a son - but all of them had been away when the tragedy struck. Their elder daughter is settled in Australia while the younger one is in Delhi. Their son had moved to Atul Sood Canada a few years ago. Sood had accommodated four employees of his store in the lower floor of the house. It were these men who heard an explosion at 1:30 am and immediately came to the rescue of the couple. They alerted the fire brigade and all of them went to the upper floor. While Ram Lal lost his consciousness having inhaled smoke, the other three - Gopal, Bhagat and Jagdish - managed to come down using a ladder. Sharing the incident, Gopal said, “The fire teams were quick to come. In 10 minutes of our phone call, they were here. It took them just 20 minutes to douse the flame. They spotted Monica and Ram Lal lying unconscious and with the help of the neighbours, got them immediately shifted to a hospital. The biggest shock for us was when they brought out the body of Sood”. A fire brigade employee Prabhjot Singh was hurt in the rescue operation as a windowpane got smashed on his hand. He, too, had to be shifted to the hospital. The fire officials said, “There was smoke because of an explosion in the house. The victim would have died because of suffocation.” SHO Police Station No. 6 Sahil Chaudhary said, “We shall ascertain the cause of the death from the post-mortem report of the victim”. I don’t take professional coaching as there are financial challenges as well but, I ensure that I learn it free of cost online,” she told The Tribune. She also expressed her wish Jasmine that she wanted to pursue LLB and become a lawyer. “I would also like to continue playing chess. The construction of the jail is expected to be completed by next year. Addressing the gathering during a ceremony held at the passing out parade of 173 wardens and six matrons at the In-Service Training Centre in Kapurthala, Laljit Singh Bhullar said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government is taking numerous steps to enhance prison security while also enabling ■ To come up at village Gorsian Qadar Baksh near Ludhiana at ~100 cr, jail will house notorious inmates separately ■ Jammers will be installed in 13 jails to prevent the use of mobile phones. ■ Petrol pumps being established at 12 prisons located along major roads to increase revenue and provide employment to inmates ■ 13 DSPs, 175 wardens, 4 matrons to be recruited soon in jails dept ■ Vocational courses and sports activities being encouraged in jails inmates to participate in economic progress through employment opportunities. As many as eight vehicles, including a bus, two cars, two bikes, two trucks and a tractor-trailer collided at three different places on the single road amid dense fog. Due to the low visibility conditions, many motorists were caught up in tailbacks on the road for hours and could drive their vehicles only at very slow speed. The road was found blocked at several places and the injured were taken for treatment. Cops were seen clearing the disrupted traffic. Tanzanian woman nabbed with heroin Tribune News Service Jalandhar, November 15 In a major breakthrough against the international drug trafficking network, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested a Tanzanian national and recovered 184 gm of heroin during a special operation in Adampur on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Padiva Nimte Bhayal Labh Khairaty Fabian Semwija, daughter of Rocky Fabian, a resident of Kaliko Police Station Muchinga, Tanzania. She was currently residing in Tughlakabad Extension, Delhi. Speaking to the media, SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said the operation was part of an ongoing drive against drug trafficking in the district. “Our teams are working round the clock to identify and dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in the region,” he said. During routine patrolling near Chuharwali in Adampur, the police team spotted a woman behaving suspiciously. Upon noticing the police presence, she attempted to discard a packet into nearby grassland, which was promptly recovered by women police personnel accompanying the team. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had entered India barely a month ago, suggesting possible links to an international drug trafficking network. The police have seized her mobile phone and are analyzing call details to trace her connections. The accused will be produced in a court where the police will seek her remand to investigate the links of the drug supply chain.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
