The parents of the minor girl told the police that their daughter is mentally challenged. She was having pain in her stomach. When the girl was examined by a doctor, she was found to be pregnant. When the girl was questioned, she said Harjinder of village Saila Kalan had been taking her to his house and sexually exploiting her. The accused has been arrested. TRIBUNE PHOTO: MALKIAT SINGH 5 nabbed with heroin, narcotic pills PHAGWARA, NOVEMBER 12 In a drive to combat drug trafficking and street crime, the Jalandhar Rural Police have apprehended five suspects involved in illegal drug and liquor peddling, seizing 32 gram of heroin, 35 narcotic pills and 12 bottles of liquor. Zoravar from Dhuleta, was apprehended at with 7 gram of heroin by a Guraya police team. Pargat Singh, resident of Dubai Colony, Dhariwal Kadia, was intercepted at the point of sale with 5 gram of heroin and 35 narcotic pills by the Lambra police. Pankaj Kumar of Safipur was arrested with 12 bottles of illicit liquor by the police and Shasheel and Rajni from Mohalla Santokhpura were caught with 20 gram of heroin as they were preparing to conduct a drug transaction. Speaking to mediapersons, SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, emphasised the department’s firm stance against illegal activities, stating, “The police are unwavering in their zero-tolerance approach toward drug smuggling and street crime. The road, which had been lying damaged for months, had become a nightmare for commuters and a hotspot for persistent traffic snarls. The damaged section, serving as the primary entry point to the station from the Damoria flyover side, sees heavy traffic daily. Adding to the chaos, the stretch also accommodates vehicles involved in loading and unloading goods at the parcel office, worsening the congestion. Despite repeated complaints from residents and commuters, the issue had been ignored until the report in these columns brought the matter to light. Commuters had expressed frustration over the poor condition of the road. “For months, no one seemed to care. An official in the office of the Director of School Education, Punjab, said maps had been drawn for the construction of the school building and a rough cost estimate had been prepared by the PWD. Upon receipt of the cost estimate, the budget would be requested from the Finance Department. He said in the report that an NOC had been issued by the National Monuments Authority for the construction of the remaining building. He said another communication had been received from the office of the Executive Engineer, Construction Division (B&R), Branch, Jalandhar, stating that the complaint was related to District Education Officer, Jalandhar. The Punjab Human Rights Commission was hearing a complaint submitted by Nakodar social activist Aditya Bhatara, alias Mannu, and said in its order that the Director of School Education, Punjab, was directed to submit the status report one week before the next date of hearing that is March 3, 2025. The construction of the new building of Government Senior Secondary School (coeducation) has remained incomplete for the last eight years following the nonrelease of funds by the government. The then Nakodar MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala on December 14, 2016, laid the foundation for the construction of the new building. The initiative, aimed at enhancing public safety and law enforcement, was conducted from November 9 to November 11, under the supervision of the ACP Model Town. , The operation targeted areas under Police Station Division Number 4 and Division Number 7, with police teams led by their SHOs and supported by Emergency Response Services (ERS).
