DSP Amandeep Singh said the accused had been identified as Vikas Sharma, a resident of Parkash Avenue, Kapurthala. Balwant Singh of Puniyan village had complained to the police that he had paid Rs 15 lakh to the accused for facilitating his son's migration abroad. Neither did he send his son abroad, nor did return the money. A case under the Travel Professional Regulation Act 2014 had been registered against the accused. OC TWO SCHOOLS BURGLED Phagwara: Government Primary School and Government High School were reportedly burgled in village Rampur-Sunrra on Sundat night. The reports said some burglars entered the building of the primary school after breaking the door of the mid-day meal room and took away one gas stove, 50 kg wheat and two CCTVs cameras from the school. Similarly, the burglars entered the building of the high school and took away 25 kg wheat, one RO system, gas cylinder and utensils from the schools. The police have registered a case. The landlord, identified as Karan Bhardwaj, was seriously injured and rushed to a private hospital. The police from Division Number-6 rushed to the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. Both accused were taken into custody. According to initial reports, Karan Bhardwaj, whose first floor of the house was available for PG, at victim Karan’s who ❝Aagirl is stayinghim. After being initially treated at a private facility, Bhardwaj underwent a medico-legal case (MLC) examination at the Jalandhar Civil Hospital. The MLC report has been handed over to the police and the statement of the victim has been recorded. SHO Division Number 6, Sahil Chaudhary, said the two youngsters, who visited the victim’s residence on a motorcycle, had initially claimed that they were there to enquire about a PG accommodation. However, their true intention was to take revenge. “The victim’s residence was occupied by a girl, who had a conflict with the landlord. The attackers, identified as Gagandeep and Harpreet Singh, were acquaintances of this girl. They attacked the landlord to pacify the girl”, he said. SHO Chaudhary further said the situation was promptly addressed as neighbours timely alerted the police, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects from the spot. Following their arrest, an FIR was registered against Gagandeep and Harpreet Singh under the relevant sections of the BNS. The purpose of the drive aims to create a safe and secure environment for girl students. The campaign, which took place on Monday, saw significant police activity across the city. Three persons had already been arrested in the case. An official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said today that among those arrested are Yudhveer Singh, former inspector and present assistant registrar, Cooperative Bank, Dasuya; Ravinder Singh, clerk-cumcashier, Cooperative Bank branch, Rupowal, Dasuya, now posted as an accountant, Central Cooperative Bank branch, Sikri, Hoshiarpur; Manjit Singh, retired cashier, Co-operative Bank branch, Rupowal, and Avtar Singh, retired manager, along with Paramjit Singh, ex-manager. The Vigilance Bureau had probed the complaint lodged by his nephew and registered a case. It was found that the accused secretary had deposited the entire loan amount from the society and again obtained a loan amounting to Rs 1,90,000 the same date. The spokesperson said based on the inquiry, the Vigilance Bureau had arrested three accused — Ajaib Singh and members Niranjan Singh and Tarsem Singh. After this, a thorough investigation was conducted in which it was found that the five more accused were involved in the fraud. c m y b Deputy Speaker meets inmates of Central Jail Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, July 22 Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri today visited Central Jail, Hoshiarpur, and reviewed the arrangements for inmates. The main objective of his visit was to inspect the condition of prisoners, security arrangements, cleanliness, health services and other facilities in the jail. The Deputy Speaker held a detailed discussion with officials of the jail administration. He also examined the quality of food available to the prisoners. The Deputy Speaker directed the officials to take care of all basic needs of the prisoners and avoid negligence. The Deputy Speaker also visited the jail hospital and interacted with patients admitted there. He met doctors and health workers and gave instructions so that better medical facilities could be provided to the patients. TRIBUNE PHOTO Farmers stage protest against power outages at Phagwara Our Correspondent Phagwara, July 22 Frustrated by the persistent power cuts, farmers staged a protest in front of the PSPCL office at Rehana Jattan on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road, raising slogans against the PSPCL and the government today. Farmer leaders Harpal Singh Sangha and Ravi Kumar Mehtiana, addressing protesters, said the farmers had been severely affected by the prolonged power cuts over the past month, resulting in their paddy crops drying up and getting ruined due to lack of water. They pointed out that despite the promise made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for the uninterrupted eight-hour electricity supply, the fields were receiving power for only one or two hours. The leaders said the timely electricity supply was crucial for the survival of their crops and its failure would lead to significant agricultural losses. Residents of 25 villages around Rehana Jattan participated in the protest. The leaders clarified that the protest was aimed at drawing attention to their plight without causing inconvenience to the public or commuters. They urged the government to ensure the continuous supply for paddy to prevent further damage to their crops.
