The ASI, in its report, has said that its investigation has revealed that the "existing structure was made from the remnants of erstwhile temples.’’ ‘‘From art and architecture of decorated pillars and pilasters, it can be said that they were part of earlier temples and were reused while making colonnades of the mosque over a high platform. A pillar decorated with niches in all the four directions depicts mutilated images of deities. Another base of a pillar also depicts a deity image in a niche. Stand- ing images on two pilasters have been chopped off and are beyond recognition." The ASI studied a total of 94 sculptures, sculptural fragments, and architectural members with sculptural depiction. “Sculptures of four armed deities were carved on windows, pillars and beams used in the existing structure. Images carved on these included Ganesh, Brahma with his consorts, Narasimha, Bhairava, gods and goddesses, human and animal figures. Images of animals in different mediums include lion, elephant, horse, dog, monkey, snake, tortoise, swan, and bird…,” the ASI report states. 4Contd on | nation MUMBAI Incessant rain lashed the city in the past 24 hours, with the BMC’s disaster management department reporting significant precipitation. In Milwaukee, as the Republican National Convention kicks off the delegates are set to officially nominate Trump for the presidency. In an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner, a day after being nicked in his right ear by a sniper’s bullet, Trump said he wanted to take advantage of the historic moment and draw the country together. He told the Examiner: “The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger.” “Had this not happened, this would have been one of the most incredible speeches” aimed mostly at the policies of President Joe Biden. “Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now.” He has switched, he said, from planning to excite his voter base to one that demonstrates his belief that the attack on him at a rally in Pennsylvania had changed the election campaign entirely. Trump noted that he was saved from death because he turned from the crowd to look at a screen showing data he was using in his speech. 4Contd on | nation Dharmesh Thakkar MUMBAI Bollywood actor Rakulpreet Singh’s brother Amanpreet Singh was arrested along with 13 others in a joint operation by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Hyderabad Police on Monday.
