NEW DELHI The Lok Sabha on Tuesday witnessed unprecedented din on the Opposition benches marred by incessant sloganeering, a prime minister who ignored the cacophony and went on relentlessly, dwelling on what he dubbed were Rahul’s juvenile outpourings, even as a visibly livid Speaker tried to restrain an unbridled opposition. Ignoring the commotion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted the Congress and the INDIA bloc for having a divisive agenda and harped on its failure to win the Lok Sabha elections despite recourse to lies and a false narrative. In his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address to both Houses of Parliament, PM Modi specifically attacked Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for churning out ‘‘lies’’ about the Agniveer scheme and mini- ON DISPLAY OF ICONS: Citizens are hurt by display of photos of the icons. The Securities and Exchange Board of India, in the June 26 show cause notice, had charged Hindenburg of "deliberately sensationalising and distorting certain facts" in the January 2023 report on the Adani group as well as working with a New York hedge fund to make its bet. This is the second time a PA has been vested with a political role. Dilip Valse-Patil was an assis- tant to Sharad Pawar for several years. He was later rewarded with a seat in the assembly and a ministerial post. Indications are that Narvekar too may get a ministerial berth if the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) recaptures power during the upcoming assembly polls. Narvekar started off as a ‘karyakarta’ of the Shiv Sena in the 80s, from Kandivli. During the course of his political work, he used to visit ‘Matoshree’, the Thackeray residence in Bandra east. The late Bal Milind Narvekar, the Shiv Sena UBT chief’s righthand man, files nomination for legislative council poll; may land ministerial berth should MVA return to power Thackeray, who had by then decided to groom Uddhav as his successor, was on the lookout for a good personal assis- tant for his son. Noticing a spark in Milind, he recruited him. After this, there was no looking back for Milind. A low-profile person, he quickly learnt the ropes of Sena politics. He precisely understood the working style of father and son and quickly adapted to the Matoshree environment, it being an important power centre of Mumbai, frequently visited by the who’s who of politics, industry, trade unions, culture and sports. Milind cultivated and endeared himself to them. At the same time, he gained the trust of the Thackerays and became their go-to man. Gradually, Milind became a power centre within Matoshree, beung approached by party office-bearers and cadres for favours. During elections, he was the most sought-after man by party workers, who mobbed him for party tickets to contest the civic, assembly and parliamentary polls. Whenever the party faced a crisis – like when Narayan Rane quit or Raj Thackeray raised the banner of revolt, Milind stood like a rock behind the leadership. 4Contd on | Nation fp Briefs CJI won’t comment Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, refused to say anything regarding the three new Criminal Acts which came into effect July 1, 2024, saying issues pertaining to these laws are pending before the top court. "These are issues are sub judice before the Supreme Court and maybe the other high courts as well. Therefore, I should not be speaking on anything likely to come up before the court." Earlier, the Supreme Court had refused to entertain a PIL challenging the new criminal laws saying that the laws were not in force. On May 19, the Supreme Court dismissed another PIL challenging the new criminal laws, saying that the petition was drafted in a casual manner.
