Complainant Raj Kumar Madan, a Sector 34 resident, alleged that his purse containing Rs 5,000 cash, mobile phone and gold ring was snatched from his wife near their house. A case under Section 304 of the Bharatiya Nyays Sanhita has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. Complainant Kulvir Singh, a resident of Sector 35, reported that inverter battery was stolen from his house. TNS Claim to be filed within 3 months of incident | Panel to take call in four months Tribune News Service Chandigarh, July 2 In compliance with the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the UT Administrator has constituted the “Chandigarh Stray Animals Incidents/Accidents Compensation Committee”. The committee will determine the compensation to be paid on account of claims made regarding incidents or accidents caused by stray cattle and animals, including cows, bulls and dogs. The victims or their family members will have to file an application before the committee for the grant of compensation, along with requisite supporting documents. In case the incident is fatal, a death certificate will be required along with a copy of FIR/DDR indicating death due to an accident caused by stray cattle/animal/dog bite. COMPENSATION AMOUNT In case of death In case of permanent disability ~5 lakh ~2 lakh Dog bite injuries: A minimum of ~10,000 per teeth mark, a minimum of ~20,000 per 10.2 sq cm of wound if flesh bitten off In case of permanent disability, a copy of FIR/DDR indicating an accident caused by stray cattle/animal/dog bite, a permanent disability certificate from medical authority (showing permanent disability of 70% or above) issued after the scheme’s implementation date and the hospital discharge summary will be required. In case of injury, the applicant will have to furnish a copy of FIR/DDR indicating the incident, a medical report/treatment documents indicating the type of injury, its degree and expenses incurred on the treatment and any other document deemed necessary to establish the claim’s genuineness and the claimant’s identity for settlement of claim. The committee may seek additional documents to verify the genuineness of claim. In case of death, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be provided to the legal heirs of the deceased. In case of permanent disability, the amount of compensation will be Rs 2 lakh. In case of injury, the amount of compensation will be assessed by the committee, subject to a maximum amount prescribed in the relevant policy. For dog bite cases, the compensation will include a minimum of Rs 10,000 per teeth mark, a minimum of Rs 20,000 per 10.2 sq cm of wound where the flesh is pulled off the body. As per the notification issued by the UT Administration, claims must be filed within three months from the date of the incident. The committee will verify facts and seek recommendations from departments or agencies concerned. The compensation payments will be made directly to the victim’s or legal heir’s bank account. The awards will be passed by the committee within four months of receiving claims and requisite documents. In case the claim is devoid of merit, the rejection will also be passed within four months. The committee will be headed by the Deputy Commissioner, while Superintendent of Police/DSP (Traffic), SDM of the area concerned, Secretary, State Transport Authority, and Medical Superintendent, GMSH-16, will be its members. The Additional Joint Commissioner, MC, will be the Member Convener. The committee will also have eight additional members on case-to-case basis. Amit Sharma Tribune News Service Chandigarh, July 2 A gym trainer has been arrested for molesting a girl at a park in Sector 16 here. The victim was having a walk alone in the park on May 19 when the incident took place. A day later, a case under Sections 354, 354-A, 376 and 506 of the IPC was registered at the Sector 17 police station. The police said the suspect was identified as Sawan Bhatti (28), a resident of Sector 49 and a native of Uttarakhand. He worked as trainer at a gym in Phase V Mohali. The , accused was nabbed at a naka laid near the Sector 23 light point yesterday. The police said the suspect, a BSc (computer science) graduate, allegedly committed the same crime earlier regarding which a case was registered at the Sector 11 police station on June 10. He had allegedly committed the crime at a park in Sector 11. Gym trainer targeted girls out alone in park The police claimed that the suspect confessed to having committed seven other such incidents in Mohali and Chandigarh. These incidents were not reported by victims. Police sources claimed that his interrogation revealed that his initial motive was snatching. However, when he noticed girls out on a walk at night he used to target them. The sources said the suspect refrained from using phone during the incidents and took service lanes, slip roads and cycle tracks to avoid getting captured on CCTV cameras. He also used to cover the number plate of his vehicle with a tape near the crime spots. The police said they were after the suspect for the past around a month and a half, for which 25 teams were constituted. The entire operation was coordinated by the District Crime Cell. Brar had served as Deputy Commissioner of the UT from 2018 to 2021. A brief spell of rain for 20odd minutes inundated several parts of Mohali with rainwater, leaving residents to face waterlogging issues for the rest of the day. The Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway was swamped with rainwater near the under-construction flyovers in Zirakpur, leading NO RELIEF FROM INUNDATION NEAR McDONALD’S CHOWK In February this year, the Mohali district administration had expressed concern over the long-pending issue of stagnation of rainwater at McDonald’s chowk in Zirakpur and asked the NHAI authorities to fix the issue permanently. However, nothing happened despite repeated reminders. Storm water drains and sewer lines have been left open and incomplete on the Zirakpur-Panchkula stretch of the National Highway leading to safety hazards, congestions and traffic jams. The NHAI has failed to complete the construction work of flyovers too. to traffic congestion. Tall claims of measures to check waterlogging, extra-wide storm water drains and drainage pumps near Singhpura fell flat. Long queues of vehicles and traffic jams were witnessed on VIP Road, near Patiala chowk, K-Area light point and Paras Downtown mall. “In the last one year, no development work has taken place. In Dyalpura and Nagla, sewage lines have continued on page 2 Chandigarh, July 2 An uprooted tree damaged portions of three houses on the PGI campus as rain lashed the city today. Besides, there were two incidents of road cave-in. Following rain in the morning, a tree on the PGI campus got weekened and fell around 7 pm. It fell on portions of three houses. There was no casualty. “We have been requesting the MC for a long time to remove this dangerous tree as it could fall anytime. However, they did not pay heed to our requests,” said Lalit, one of the house allottees. Houses of Amar Singh and Darshan were also damaged. Efforts were on to remove the tree till the filing of this report. Rajwinder Singh, president of the PGI Residential Complex Welfare Committee, informed that residents of all the three houses were safe, but were forced to sit outside as the work to remove the tree was on. Meanwhile, a road cavedin was reported from near the Railway light point. The traffic was diverted from the location. TNS HC Bar chief booked Slain drug officer’s parents booked for forgery, cheating for assaulting lawyer Husband alleges her signature on insurance papers counterfeit Amit Sharma Tribune News Service Chandigarh, July 2 The UT police have booked Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association president Vikas Malik and his associates for allegedly assaulting a lawyer on the High Court complex. The victim, Ranjeet Singh, along with a court clerk, was delivering court summons to Malik in connection with a writ petition when the incident occurred on Monday. Ranjeet suffered injuries, including to his rib, and was taken to the GMSH-16 . In his statement to the police, Ranjeet claimed that Malik and his associates attacked him and he was rescued by other lawyers. A case under Sections 191(2), 190, 126(2), 115(2) and 351(2,3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at the Sector 3 police station. In addition to Malik, Kunal Muthreja and Dinesh Jangra have been named in the FIR. — TNS Chandigarh, July 2 The parents of Neha Shoree, the Zonal Licensing Authority of the Food and Drug Administration, Punjab, who was shot dead in Kharar on March 29, 2019, have been booked by the UT police on the charges of cheating following a complaint filed by the deceased officer’s husband, Varun Monga, a resident of Panchkula. According to the FIR, Monga alleged that Capt Kailash Kumar Shoree (retd) and his TWO POLICIES BOUGHT WEEK BEFORE MURDER ■ Two life insurance policies in the name of Neha Shoree were purchased on March 20, 2019, and issued on March 22, just a week before her murder. ■ One of these policies was proposed by her mother Arun Shoree and the other by her father Capt Kailash Kumar Shoree (retd). ■ Neha’s husband Varun Monga alleged that the signatures on customer declaration forms of the policies were forged. The forms were submitted by her father. ■ The complainant had got the signatures on the forms verified by a forensic document expert. ■ Neha’s parents realised money from these policies (~5.47 lakh per policy) after her death. wife Arun Shoree, residents of Sector 12, Panchkula, forged Neha’s signatures on insur- ance proposal/customer declaration forms, misappropriating an amount of Rs 10 lakh. c m y b He further claimed that after his wife’s death, her parents filed a complaint against him regarding a car, forcing him and his daughter to approach the Panchkula district court. As per the complaint, during the civil suit proceedings in the car case, records from various banks, mutual funds and insurance companies were summoned. It was then that the complainant had discovered about Neha’s two life insurance policies of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company Ltd. These policies were purchased on March 20, 2019, and issued on March 22, just a week before Neha’s murder. As per the records, one policy was proposed by Arun Shoree and the other by Kailash Kumar Shoree. Monga alleged that the signatures on the customer declaration forms of these policies were forged, as they did not match Neha’s genuine signatures. Additionally, the forms indicated that the applications were submitted by Kailash Kumar Shoree, Neha’s father. The complainant claimed that he got signatures compared continued on page 2
