The victim, Lovepreet Singh, a taxi driver from Mohali, was taking a rest in his taxi alongside the road when three youths asked him to drop them at Kharar. When the taxi driver refused, one of them snatched the car keys from him, while the other pointed a gun at him. The trio beat him up and took away the car. The victim told the police and a forensic team reached the spot and began investigation. The police scanned the accommodation, collected evidence, photos and call detail record of the deceased. “Local residents said frequent complaints about drunk- en brawls and nuisance related to the flat were reported earlier,” said Gurtej Teji, a local said, adding that last night also, a party was going on there. These places meant for dumping garbage will be built into neat and clean complaint centres for local residents,” said an official. “There will be less response time to the complaints. Staff of local electrical, public health and sanitation wings will be deployed at these centres and they will work under the supervision of a Junior Engineer,” added the official. Wife battles for life at PGI Mohali, May 12 A man and his daughter died while his wife is battling for life after a trailer truck ran over the bike they were riding near the railway overbridge on the ChandigarhAmbala National Highway in Dera Bassi this afternoon. The victim, Vijay Kumar (52), died on the spot while his daughter, Vaishali (26), succumbed to injuries at the PGI. Injured Mamta’s right leg was crushed under the wheels of the truck. Brother FAMILY WAS RETURNING FROM GURDWARA In death, Kaithal lad gives new lease of life to 5 patients Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 12 Courageous decision of Shubham’s family to donate his organs has sparked hope for five individuals who underwent transplant of liver, pancreas, kidneys and corneas of the deceased. Four surgeries were held at the PGI and one at ILBS, New Delhi. Prof Vivek Lal, Director of PGI, expressed his admiration for Shubham’s family, stating, “Families like Shubham’s inspire confidence in the Cadaver Organ Donation Programme. Their selfless act is a gift of life for recipients and a testament to the compassion and resilience of the human spirit.” The tragedy struck on May 7, when Shubham, a promising 24-year-old student from Patti Afgan village, Kaithal district, Haryana, was fatally injured in an accident. Despite efforts at Kalpana Chawla Hospital, Karnal, he was shifted to the PGI on May 8. He was declared brain dead next day after two meetings of the Brain Death Certification Committee. After the declaration of the brain death of Shubham, the transplant coordinators approached the family to consider the option of organ at SSKs, from where trash was taken to the waste processing plant by MC vehicles. Under the existing system, vehicles lift garbage from houses and unload it at the three MRFs. From there, wet and dry waste is transported to the garbage processing plant in Dadu Majra. Earlier, local residents often raised the issue of poor sanitation around the SSKs. The beneficiaries include a kidney patient (39), 34-yearold man with Type 1 diabetes, who underwent simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplant; and two corneal blind patients who received Shubham’s corneas. Deceased girl’s parents donate her organs Panchkula, May 12 A girl from Haryana gave a new lease of life to four critically ill patients after her tragic death. Joginder Pal Singh and Pinky Rani, the parents of 18-year-old Preet, chose to donate their beloved daughter’s organs. Preet from Jind met with an accident on April 29 and was declared brain dead at a private hospital in Panchkula. While the liver was sent to Delhi, her pancreas and one kidney were sent to PGI . The other kidney was donated to a patient at the Panchkula hospital. The altercation between Rohit’s family and their neighbours, Ashok and his son Sumit, alias Babu, occurred over removing an electricity wire. Rohit alleged that he was hit with a rod. The police were informed about the incident and the victim was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, where the doctors referred him to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
