The DGCA has revised the Air Transport Circular (ATC)-01 of 2024, titled ‘Unbundle of Services and fees by scheduled airlines’, introducing several changes aimed at enhancing passenger experience and addressing concerns regarding seating arrangements, particularly for children. AGENCIES NEW DELHI, 23 APRIL In response to recent action by food regulators in Singapore and Hong Kong, India's commerce and industry ministry has initiated an inquiry into the alleged banning of certain spices manufactured by Indian companies such as MDH and Everest, according to sources familiar with the matter. The Ministry has reportedly reached out to the authorities in Singapore and Hong Kong, seeking detailed information regarding the banned spices and the reasons behind their rejection. Technical specifications, analytical reports, and specifics regarding exporters, whose shipments have been turned away, are among the details requested. This inquiry extends to the embassies in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as the Singapore Food Agency and the Centre for Food Safety and Food & Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong. Additionally, the Ministry has enlisted the cooperation of the companies mentioned in media reports surrounding the issue. The focus of the investigation is to ascertain the root causes of these rejections and to work with the exporters involved to implement necessary corrective measures. In a statement, the ECI said: “1,351 candidates from 12 States /UTs to contest elections in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections. This includes eight contesting candidates for the adjourned poll in Betul Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, one candidate from Surat PC in Gujarat has been elected unopposed.” According to the poll panel, a total of 2,963 nominations were filed for 95 seats (including Betul) across 12 States/UTs going for polls in the third phase for the general elections. After the scrutiny of all nominations filed, 1563 nominations were found to be valid, it said. I want to say you don’t have the power to touch the CAA. What is Mamata Banerjee’s problem if refugees get Indian citizenship?” Mr Shah said that his party is targeting to win 30 to 35 seats from West Bengal. “If we can win 30 Lok Sabha seats including Raiganj, we will set up an AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) here for North Bengal,” Mr Shah said, adding: “The government sanctioned the proposal for setting up the AIIMS in Raiganj but Mamata Banerjee shifted it from here to near Kolkata.” Mr Shah also campaigned for his party candidate Srirupa Mitra Chowdhury, who is contesting from Maldah (Dakshin) in English Bazaar Town and joined a Roadshow there today . She has failed to protect Maa in Sandeshkhali, she has presented corruption to Manush and has given up Mati to Bangladeshis in Bengal,” Mr Shah said. “If we come back to power we will check infiltration in West Bengal,” he added. 6 factors powering India’s take-off to become world’s 3rd largest economy AGENCIES MUMBAI, 23 APRIL While India’s recent growth performance has surprised many, triggering a flurry of upgrades from financial institutions such as the IMF, the RBI bulletin released on Tuesday cites six factors that will propel the country to become the world’s third-largest economy. In purchasing power parity (PPP) terms, the Indian economy is already the third largest in the world. According to the OECD’s December 2023 update, India will overtake the US by 2045 in PPP terms to become the world’s second-largest economy, the RBI bulletin points out. According to the bulletin, the “tailwinds likely to power India’s take-off” are as follows: - The demographics favour the rising profile of growth. Currently, India has the world’s largest and youngest population. The median age is around 28 years; not until the mid-2050s will aging set in. Thus, India will enjoy a demographic dividend window of more than three decades, driven by rising working-age population rates and labour force participation rate. This is a striking contrast to a world widely confronted with the challenge of aging. - India’s growth performance has been historically anchored by domestic resources, with foreign savings playing a minor and supplementary role. This is also reflected in the current account deficit (CAD), which remains within a sustainable thresh- old of about 2.5 per cent of the GDP. Currently, the CAD averages about 1 per cent, and this is associated with various indicators of external sector resilience – illustratively, external debt is below 20 per cent of the GDP and net international investment liabilities are below 12 per cent. - The gradualistic path of fiscal consolidation adopted after the Covid pandemic has brought the general government deficit to 8.6 per cent of the GDP and public debt to 81.6 per cent of the GDP by March 2024.
