They (Opposition alliance) built palaces for their families, Modi builds pucca houses for the poor, the PM told his listeners. Much to the dismay over the gathering, the rhetoric was entirely targeted at the Congress-led INDIA bloc without a word against the BJD government. The BJP is the main Opposition in the state and it has been alleging rampant corruption of over Rs 1 lakh crore per annum. There was not even a mention of ‘double engine’ sarkar. It assumes significance against the backdrop of reported negotiations of seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha elections between the BJP and BJP. The PM exhorted people to vote for ‘400 par’ . Asserting that India is marching ahead to be the third biggest economy of the world, the PM said a strong and decisive government again will ensure a developed nation where farmers, youth, women, poor and all sections stand to benefit. In the last 10 years Odisha has received a lot of funds from the Centre, it will be the gateway of Viksit Bharat, he observed. PM congratulates Shehbaz Sharif on becoming Pak PM ASHOK TUTEJA NEW DELHI, 5 MARCH Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Mr Shehbaz Sharif on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. "Congratulations to Shehbaz Sharif on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan," Mr Modi posted on X. Mr Sharif took oath as Pakistan's PM for a second term on Monday, capping weeks of political uncertainty in that country. Soon after he was elected, Mr Sharif raised the Kashmir issue in the National Assembly, suggesting that there might not be much change in his country's policy on Kashmir. In any case, any possibility of the resumption of the stalled dialogue between the two countries any time soon is ruled out since India is scheduled to hold general elections in April-May. In Pakistan too, Mr Sharif would first like to consolidate his position before taking a position on dialogue with India. MrSharif'selderbrother, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had established a good equation with PM Modi when he was at the helm. It was during his stewardship of Pakistan thatMrModipaidasurprisevisit toLahoreon25December,2015, raising hopes of a new beginning in ties between the two nations. However, within a week of the Indian leader's visit, an IAF base at Pathankot was attacked by Pakistan-based terrorists, putting paid to any hopes of the revival of the dialogue. India conducted surgical strikes on terrorist camps in PakistaninSeptember2016and air strikes in Balakot in February 2019. Things took a turn for the worse between the two nations when India abrogated Art 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, stripping it of its special status on 5 August 2019. An incensed Pakistan downgraded diplomatic ties with India, suspending the then-Indian HighCommissioner.NewDelhi, however, made it clear to Pakistan and its supporters in the Islamic world that there was no question of reversing its decision on J& K. Since then, the bilateral relationship has been in deep freeze. However, the return of a Sharif to the PM's post has given rise to speculation that Pakistan may want to return to the negotiating table as that would be in its own interest to confront the economic and security challenges it is currently faced with. even earn by selling power. The PM had to pause several times as the crowd kept cheering him. He was visibly elated at the response of the crowd and he said so. The PM also paused when he saw two girls holding a painting apparently to give it to him. Mr Modi directed the SPG to collect the paintings from the girls and asked the girls to write their address promising to write back to them. Describing INDIA alliance as an assembly of corrupt people, he said: “These people have no answer to our policies, work and pledges, that’s why they have stepped up attack on Modi. They are saying Modi has no family and are telling people to oust him. The INDIA block dynastic people are saying their fight is ideological and their ideology is Family First.” Leveling corruption charges against Congress, he said the grand old party, along with its UPA allies of the past, aimed only at “filling their coffers” while they were in power. We have ensured that rulesbased maritime order is strengthened in the IOR,” he said inaugurating the new Administrative & Training building at the Naval War College (NWC) in Goa (Photo). The modern edifice, named the 'Chola’, pays homage to the mighty maritime empire of the Chola dynasty of ancient India. Mr Singh described “Chola Bhawan” as a symbol of the aspirations of the Navy and India’s legacy of maritime excellence. It is also a reflection of India’s new mindset of coming out of the mentality of slavery and feeling proud of its rich his- torical heritage, he added. The minister also spoke about the shift in dealing with the threat perception under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is now covering landbased as well as maritime challenges. “Earlier, almost all the governments focused on strengthening land borders, but maritime threats were not given as much importance. In view of the increased movement of our adversaries in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) & the commercial importance of the region, it was necessary to re-assess our threat perception and accordingly re-balance our military resources and strategic attention. Under the PM's guidance, we not only re- imagined India's role in the IOR, but also strengthened it. Due to these efforts, India has today emerged as the first responder and preferred security partner in the IOR,” he said. Mr Singh highlighted that due to the Navy’s readiness, India is fulfilling its responsibility in the IOR by providing full assistance to the littoral countries. He stated that the Navy is ensuring that no country, with its overwhelming economic and military power, is able to assert dominance over friendly countries or threaten their sovereignty. The readiness with which the Navy stands with the country’s allies provides substantive strength to India's global values, he said.
