Jai Hind Readers,

Do you know why we celebrate Republic Day on 26th January? Yes, we know it’s because we commemorate the day that our constitution came into effect. Well, it’s partially right!

Our Constitution, which was drafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (Chairman of the drafting committee), was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949. But the Assembly postponed its enforcement for 2 months. They decided to formally implement it on 26th January 1950. The reason for the delay was – It was on 26th January 1930 that the Indian National Congress proclaimed the Declaration of Indian Independence or Poorna Swaraj from the British Raj. The nation builders of Modern India decided that the date that they decide for the Constitution to come into effect should be meaningful and have a history and the rest is all history!

I think they made a wonderful choice!

Enjoy the edition!
