Hello Readers,

What an inspiring lot you are! Your mascot contributions are well formed and admirable and have delighted us beyond words. There are still seven days to go before we choose the winning entry. If you have an idea, no matter how plain and simple, do pen it down because we are looking for a sincere idea. Hurry up!

And thanks to Sanskruti for reminding us that today is a very special day. In 2012, the then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh announced December 22nd as National Mathematics Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of a remarkable mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. Srinivasa Ramanujan has made several contributions in different areas of mathematics and is popularly known as ‘The man who knew Infinity’. He is best known for the Number Theory, Infinite Series, and penned down fascinating formulas to compute the value of pi in different ways.

Number Theory – It explains what some types of numbers are, what properties they have and in what ways they can be useful, e.g., prime numbers, factors etc.

Value of pi – If you have started studying geometry, you would have heard of pi, denoted as π. It is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter and is approx. equal to 3.14159. Pi is an irrational number which means its decimal form never ends nor repeats itself. Knowing the value of pi is considered a matter of pride in the fraternity of mathematicians.

Now I am terrible in math and that is why I am especially drawn to such fascinating stories of such genius people.

Enjoy the edition!
