Dear Readers
Ego was very angry, love was not agreeing to her point of view. They were debating about the right way to talk to people. “We should always be nice to people, especially if we don’t know them”, opined Love. “What! That’s such a waste of time. Why should I do that? The other person can also approach me and be nice, why should I initiate”, argued Ego. “Because the other person might think the same. So, why not?”, said Love. “Bah! Humbug!”, said an exasperated Ego.
Their debate went on for a long time, they had reached an impasse (a dead end) as neither of them could persuade the other. So, they decided to go to Wisdom, an old sage who was known for settling disputes.
After hearing them, Wisdom smiled and said, “Both of you are right, but half right. Love, I know your heart is in the right place, but your approach is flawed as sometimes people might take you for granted and not take you seriously. Ego, your approach is flawed because you will never be able to make friends if you will not think from other people’s point of view. You do know what you need to do, right! Because ego is nothing else but misplaced self-respect. Ego is nothing but self-respect without love for others. Why don’t you try to become best friends and see if your problem resolves by itself”.
Ego and Love tried Wisdom’s advice when they went to school. As expected, they never had trouble making friends again. Both were extremely happy. As they had become one – Self Respect.
