Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, born on November 14, and after whom Children’s Day is celebrated in India, once said, "Children are like buds in a garden and should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow". Chacha Nehru, as he was fondly called, was known for revolutionising the Indian education system. This week, we move from the academic curriculum and focus on the extracurricular activities available for the children of today to grow and learn.
Rekha Reddy, the first Master of Ohara Ikebana, is the foremost name that comes to mind when you think of Ikebana in Hyderabad. She’s been practicing the art of flower arrangement for the last 30 years and has been the President of both the Ikebana International Hyderabad Chapter and the Hyderabad Ohara Chapter in the past. Currently, Rekha teaches children the Japanese art form, and every year she hosts an exhibition of Ikebana for children on Children’s Day.
