Dear Readers,
Pandemics are not new, they have always been a part of the human ecosystem, and each is experienced by society differently. Two years ago we marked the centenary of the worst pandemic in history: the so-called Spanish flu— an outbreak that experts say was imported to Europe by troops from the United States coming to fight in World War One. The deadly pandemic caused by the H1N1 influenza A virus lasted for more than 12 months and infected 500 million people – about a third of the world's population at the time. Currently, we are experiencing something very similar in the form of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
