This is the first TRENDS issue of its kind. Ever. Five years ago, we started in India with a magazine that was all about residential spaces, and how those spaces were designed. So many homes and rooms and kitchens but not a soul in sight. Things changed a few years down the line when we changed the masthead – from Home TRENDS, we became Home & Design TRENDS. We began to include commercial designs as well as people who were behind the exciting flux in the design space. And what a ride it’s been. Bit by bit, we reached out to the quiet mavericks, and to the iconic stalwarts. Three years and counting, we met them, had inspiring conversations and printed them in our pages. This is our very first People’s Issue. This is the issue where we revisit many of those past conversations – and combine them into a very special interview digest. Inside are conversations with icons of present and past: BV Doshi, Rahul Mehrotra, Moshe Safdie, Toyo Ito, Raseel Gujral, Maarten Baas, Karim Rashid, Kapil Gupta, Bose Krishnamachari and many more. In addition, and this part I am even more excited about, is the Portfolio section (pg 69). 17 pages of original and rare, and in most cases, hand drawn sketches and drawings of the world’s most famous buildings by the world’s most celebrated architects – Le Corbusier, Renzo Piano, the new RIBA winner Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry and Steven Holl to name a few. Our many thanks to the wonderful foundations and firms that extended their help and these materials for publication. And FYI – the entries for TRENDS Excellence Awards for Architecture & Design open on October 15th. Log on to www.trendsawards.in and get ready to participate.
