GQ’s flagship Men of the Year Awards issue, which celebrates feats of incredible achievement and bravery through this most challenging year.
The 13th edition of these awards, are a marker of some of the most impressive accomplishments of 2021.
Recount: Neeraj Chopra’s Herculean effort, hurling his javelin into the distance on that humid Tokyo night; 34-year-old Chaitanya Tamhane’s searing vision that allowed him to tell the most local, human story that transcended borders and cultures; or Test cricket legend Cheteshwar Pujara—often unfairly judged for plodding along—taking body blows and blunting a menacing pace attack to ensure India won a hypnotic Test series in Australia at the beginning of 2021.
Apart from the above we also have a global Fashion Awards special (Accessories of the Year: Pearls); the best celebrity style looks of the year (my favourite was Daniel Craig’s cranberry velvet tux at the Bond premiere); the best designers and brands from which to purchase bonafi de one-of-a-kind bespoke menswear across India; the cars to look forward to in 2022; and the most drool-worthy watches on the planet. We also have a feature that explores the meteoric rise of regional Indian cinema over the past year, with movies from Kerala and Tamil Nadu riding the wave of streaming platforms, fi nding large audiences far outside their traditional territories. Today, the reclusive Malayali actor Fahadh Faasil has a burgeoning pan-India appeal, a sign of things to come. As we step into a new year, there’s much to look forward to.
