Cold Chain Sector- Emerging out!
Currently it is estimated that only 70 per cent of the crop produced in India by the farmer reaches the end consumer. With inclusion of cold chain elements like pack houses, reefer vehicles and storages in the policy support, the loss in perishables can be significantly reduced. In view of this, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) initiated the implementation of a Central Sector Scheme of Cold Chain, Value Addition and Preservation Infrastructure in 2008 for providing assistance in setting up of integrated cold chain infrastructure for arresting post-harvest losses of horticulture and non-horticulture produce.
