About this issue

Dear Readers,Pandemics are not new, they have always been a part of the human ecosystem, and each is experienced by society differently. Two years ago we marked the centenary of the worst pandemic in history: the so-called Spanish flu— an outbreak that experts say was imported to Europe by troops from the United States coming to fight in World War One. The deadly pandemic caused by the H1N1 influenza A virus lasted for more than 12 months and infected 500 million people – about a third of the world's population at the time. Currently, we are experiencing something very similar in the form of the novel coronavirus pandemic.Even throughout the lockdown, we have continued to bring you a rich assortment of content for your reading pleasure. Our Feature Story this week highlights some of the most severe pandemics in history and on the cover is a picture of two fashionable women wearing nose veils in the Balkans, over a hundred years ago. Our Special Feature ties in with our Feature Story. This week, we spoke to well-known doctors from the city for a better understanding of the virus.Check out our interview with Dr A. V. Gurava Reddy, who talks about the orthopaedic visionary. Founder, Chairman, Chief Joint Replacement Surgeon and Managing Director of Sunshine Group of Hospitals, Dr Reddy continues to strive to provide the best for his patients, colleagues, and employees. If you're planning a getaway after the lockdown, do consider visiting Pench National Park, complete with tips and tricks to make your trip more enjoyable. Read our Grand Getaways to know more. With billions of people quarantined at home, travel has all but come to a halt, significantly decreasing carbon dioxide emissions. However, there will still be some things in the house that make it more robust (or dangerous) to breathe. Check out our Mind and Body as we bring you a slew of tips on how to reduce indoor air pollution so that you can take a concrete step towards a cleaner and greener world. And tell us what you think. If you have any suggestions, comments or queries, please e-mail me at publisher@you-and-i.com.
