2020 was a tough year; a game changing year; a transformational year; a disastrous year. It took many turns, and many lives. Yet it brought us together. It was a frustrating year, yet it transformed hordes of people - some for the worse, many more for the better. Businesses crashed, people lost their livelihoods, fear reigned supreme - fear of being infected by COVID-19, fear of dying or losing a loved one, and fear of loneliness were just some that struck the hearts of many. Yet, dawn had to come, and it has arrived - in the form of various vaccines that are now available and being delivered to the populace all over the world, slowly but surely. In that spirit of hope, we trudged on, talking to Sindhis the world over about their lives, their work, and how they are adjusting to the new normal. Gracing the cover is epic TV actor Jiten Lalwani who has spent a considerable part of his career playing roles in mythological (I would choose to refer to them as historical) shows with several 100 episodes - Devo Ke Dev Mahadev among others. In the pages that follow, you will find members of the community representing a multitude of career paths. Fashion designer Monisha Jaising, the founder of Sindhi computing and desktop publishing Abdul-Majid Bhurgri, food writer and author Sumayya Usmani, active duty lawyer in the US Navy Alvir Sadhwani, and artists Nisha Pinjani and Rewati Shahani. The choices don’t end there! You can also read about Sapna Ajwani who is popularizing Sindhi food in London, Vishal Wadhwa - who went from a start up to a titan in the interior design space in India, cast member of Netflix’s docuseries Indian Matchmaking Aparna Shewakramani, astrophysics PhD candidate Nivedita Mahesh, social entrepreneur Saransh Vaswani, belly dancer Sanjana Muthreja, founder of NBARS Nisha Primlani, and musician & Vedic astrology counselor Sai Ganesh Nagpal.Joining the ranks are Rajesh Kumar Parasramani who lost his vision but not his passion for music, Aisha Chottani - who bottled up meditation with her botanical beverage Moment, founder of Nooni’s Kitchen Anushka Lakhiani, Ob-Gyn Dr. Esha Chainani, and Real Girl Smriti Notani. The common binding thread, besides being Sindhi of course, was their ability to cope with these trying times, revealing humanity’s most basic blueprint - that of survival. And survive we will.Until the next quarter, stay stafe and stay healthy!
