About this issue

Marwaris may no doubt be synonymous with enterprise and wealth creation, but they are almost as well known for philanthropy. Doing one’s mite for the less privileged is in fact ingrained in the Marwari ethos. There are those, however, whose dedication to philanthropy takes on a larger dimension, as is the case with Kashi Murarka and son Dr Aneel Murarka, the owners of Mirachem Industriies, whom we have featured on our cover this issue. The Murarkas’ contributions in the domains of charity and philanthropy have in fact earned them more prominence than their credentials as a flourishing Mumbai-based chemical manufacturer.   Sharing a part of one’s wealth may come easy for the wealthy, but there are those selfless individuals too in the Marwari community for whom philanthropy is a career choice and an unflinching dedication. Padma Shri Kailash Chandra Agarwal ‘Manav’, the founder-chairman of Udaipur’s Narayan Seva Sansthan, is one such individual. What started with a desire to provide free meals to harried attendants of poor patients in government hospitals has grown into a mammoth institution today which serves the underprivileged and the differently-abled, especially poor children, through its 480 branches across India.   Marwari men may be at the forefront of enterprise and countless other domains, but their female counterparts have not lagged behind either. To ensure that they too are able to contribute to society and the nation positively, Kolkata-based All India Marwari Mahila Samity, headed by Alka Bangur, dedicates itself to empowering underprivileged girls and women. However, the Samity’s numerous initiatives commendably spill on to other charitable domains as well!   Coming to new generation Marwaris, we have Meghna Agarwal, co-founder of IndiQube, which has been growing rapidly since its inception and continues to maintain an impressive growth trajectory as one of India’s largest co-working and managed office space providers.   With all this and more, we bring you yet another interesting issue of MARWAR.

About Marwar India

Marwar is a community-based magazine with an emphasis on profiling the best and the brightest in the Marwari community. The magazine reaches the elite in India and abroad who want to read and discover the wonders of all things connected with the community. Thus, the subjects featured have to have the flavour of Marwar and Rajasthan—its culture, lifestyle and traditions. We highlight arts, crafts, music, dance and theatre as well as fashion and food that are connected to the region apart from immensely successful businessmen and businesswomen. In the past, luminaries like Laxmi Mittal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Indu Jain, Sanjiv Goenka and Rajashree Birla, to name a few, have graced our cover.
