About this issue

The April issue of Pallikkutam highlights the issue of malnutrition, craving for junk foods and rise in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer and heart disease. Despite the abundance of food grains, India doesn't score well in World Hunger Index. New food technologies and food safety laws has to be judiciously implemented to ensure that the students and youth who form a larger percentage of the population don't end up unproductive and in poor health. Pallikkutam has launched the Taste India project to make children cook good food at home with locally available food material under the supervision of parents and chef. Toys can be creatively used in education for the holistic development of the child and two experts discuss how it can be done. Adoloscents go through trying times during pandemic and final examinations and how to deal with them is also discussed. In health, we discuss the inflammatory bowel disease, its causes and remedies and in sports we deal with the issue of teams blaming the pitch for their failures. How can a research culture be fostered in the nation involving government, educational institutions and industry?
