The present study endeavored to examine the role of purpose in life, social support, leisure activities and loneliness in understanding the subjective well-being of the elderly. The sample comprised 100 elderly (50 couples) from Rohtak (Haryana). The analyses showed that social support, purpose in life and leisure activities contributed significantly to the subjective wellbeing of elderly. These results suggest that purpose in life, participation in leisure activities and social support from colleagues, friends and family enhance both physical and mental health and thereby promotes subjective well-being
