Chronic pain experience involves a variety of physiological and psychological factors. An approach that incorporates both physiological and psychological intervention is likely to yield better outcomes on measures of pain like intensity, frequency, duration, pain related behaviours and interference in activities. The paper presents existing psychological models and highlights the practical application of various psychological interventions which include cognitive behaviour therapy, biofeedback, relaxation and hypnosis.
