Every democratic country needs good, efficient and soundphysically as well as mentally-citizens for its betterment and survival. This need is largely served by its educational institutions. In our country although it is said that our education is childcentred, a close look at the functioning of our educational institutions reveals that most of them are not in a position and spirit to satisfy even the basic psychological needs for security, respect, support, belongingness and recognition of their students. On the contrary, faulty training about personal-social habits and wrong handling of pupils’ problems are hindering their proper development. The cumulative effect of all these factors leads to mal-adjustments in most of the cases; either in the form of antisocial behaviour or in the form of mental symptoms.
