A study of stressors, strains and coping strategies among women entrepreneurs in the state of Andhra Pradesh has been carried out. A list of ten stressors, strains and coping strategies each was formulated pertaining to women entrepreneurs in establishing and managing the enterprises. The analysis was carried out categorizing the women entrepreneurs based on investment (low investment, medium investment and high investment), family structure (nuclear family and joint family) and regional background (rural background and urban background). The results indicate that the salient stressors among women entrepreneurs were responsibility to people, heavy work load, unable to spend time with family, inefficient work force and inadequate finances. Anxiety, tension, fatigue, frustration and dissatisfaction were the major strains experienced by the women entrepreneurs. The coping strategies mostly adopted by the women entrepreneurs to cope with the occupational stressors include, taking help from husband/family for solving crisis, planning and goal setting, time management and yoga. It was also observed that with respect to the occupational stress experienced by the women entrepreneurs, there is no need to distinguish them from the point of view of the category to which they belong. The Chi-square analysis of the data indicates that the women entrepreneurs were decisive in expressing their opinions regarding stressors and strains felt and coping strategies adopted in managing the enterprises. Regarding the significantly experienced stressors and strains and coping strategies adopted majority of the women entrepreneurs have chosen the response categories ‘Always’ and ‘Often’ where as regarding the least significantly experienced stressors and strains and coping strategies adopted, majority of the women entrepreneurs have chosen the response categories ‘Sometimes’, ‘Rarely’ and ‘Never’. The trend of responses to occupational stress indicates that the women entrepreneurs apply logic and tackle the problems seeking effective solutions in managing the enterprises successfully.
