Health consciousness is the tendency to focus attention on one’s health, where individual with more health conscious have better quality of life. A concept of health consciousness has been used by Gould S.J. (1990) where health consciousness was measured by converting the self consciousness. However, this measure ignored many aspects of health that contributes to bring more health conscious ness. The present study aimed to develop a measure of health consciousness with broader health perspective. A selfreport assessment instrument, of which measures Health Consciousness Scale (HCS), was developed. Item selection was based on the theories, models and concepts used by earlier studies. The scale was standardized on the sample of 242 (male=153, female=89) having the age group of 20-65 yrs (mean age=35.74). The data were factor analysed which yielded five-factor namely as Nutrition & Satisfaction, Energy, Cautiousness, Self & Practice and Monitoring. The psychometric properties (Guttman Split- Half Reliability Coefficient) of these sub scales were ranging from 0.404 to 0.869.
