About Comprehensive Book of MRCPsych CASC

The MRCPsych examinations (Paper A, Paper B and CASC) are challenging, thought-provoking and essential building block towards higher specialist training in Psychiatry in the United Kingdom. The Clinical Assessment of Skills and Competencies (CASC) is the final examination that demands meticulous preparation and command over clinical and communication skills. To succeed in CASC is every Psychiatry trainee’s aspiration that leads to Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. In this book, we have endeavored to provide extensive CASC revision scenarios covering the length and breadth of curriculum essential to pass the examination. We are confident that this book will allow candidates to be thoroughly prepared for CASC and significantly improve their chance of success. The book is organised in three main sections. The first section aims at providing information and guidance on CASC examination format and structure. The second section includes clinical examination scenarios with sample stations. The third section has extensive coverage of single and linked sample stations from range of sub-specialties in Psychiatry. All sample stations are based on the curriculum and provide clinical scenarios that can be practised with colleagues, seniors and other trainees doing the examination. We strongly recommended practising in groups where one would act as patient, another candidate and third as an examiner. This is a multi-author book and burden of editorship has been wisely spread to capitalise on breath and depth of expertise, thereby providing trainees the wealth of scenarios and knowledge for CASC. It is our intention that this book will help Psychiatry trainees not only to pass CASC but also to improve their clinical skills, communication and overall patient care. We hope Psychiatry trainees and all involved in Psychiatry education would find this book helpful for the MRCPsych examinations. The authors would like to wish trainees all the best in their endeavor to achieve MRCPsych.
