Let me tell you a story!
My nephew stood outside his school. He burst into tears when he saw his mother my sister walking towards him. “sob-sob-Hindi, today-sob”. Even though what he was saying was illegible for a third person, my sister understood at once and said in disbelief, “What! You are messing with me, right”. “No, we studied for the wrong subject, I had to take the Hindi exam today”, he managed to say in between sobs. And then something incredible happened, my sister too broke into sobs. They both hugged each other and continued crying, comforting each other, and blaming themselves for this misadventure. Seeing people’s prying and confused eyes, I ushered both to the car so that they could cry in peace. Once they were placed in the safety of the car, I picked up my phone and quickly took some pictures of them crying before the moment was lost forever. They of course didn’t notice. After some time, my nephew forgot all about his trouble and started humming a song. My sister eased into a smile, and we started talking about something unrelated. What seemed devastating then, felt trivial now. After all, it was just a grade 4 exam.
Since that day, if my nephew or my sister ever feel weighed down by something, we go back to the picture I took that day, and we have a good laugh about it. Things feel not so momentous in hindsight, isn’t
