Hello Readers, A long time ago, the melodious chirrup of sparrows was ubiquitous present everywhere in our surroundings. With massive urbanization of cities, these beautiful creatures shifted their abode to dense forests and places with low population density and we did not see them in the last two decades. Then the InternationalUnion for Conservation of Nature placed our beloved sparrow on the red list of the endangered species. Not everything was looking hunky dory to me until March20th, 2021, the World Sparrow Day, when I read a few news articles on the ‘Return of the House Sparrow’. Turns out, the population of the house sparrow has increased remarkably in the last few months. Experts feel the burgeoning ever growing population of the blue rock pigeons is the root cause for the decline of sparrows. The pigeons not only encroach their habitat but also leave less food for the delicate ‘State Bird of Delhi’.  But don’t fret children, there is a lot we can do to help our little friend. Rakesh Khatri, considered as the ‘Sparrow Man of India’, is an environmentalist who works towards saving them. According to him we can do the following:1.   Learn how to make nests for sparrows and place them in a safe and secure place, away from predators like cats. There are numerous tutorial videos available onYouTube where we can learn how to make a safe nest for them. 2.   Place small containers filled with water in parks, terraces, roadsides, balconies, etc. so that they have access to clean drinking water.3.   Spread awareness among our friends and peers. I feel positive, my fellow crusaders, that together we can, and we will make a difference. Enjoy the edition Priyanka
