Thirteen years! With this issue, that’s how long
‘The Sindhian’ has been around and exploring the
world of Sindhis, showcasing their astuteness for
business, their adaptability to be able to integrate
anywhere and within any country, and to live
in harmony everywhere. And as we go along, I have been
noticing that we are intricately woven into the international
fabric of the world. From Australia to Zanzibar, you will
fi nd Sindhis comfortably settled there, speaking the local
language, eating their food, and imbibing their lifestyles
along with their own.
And yet, for everything that the Sindhis are, and for
everything that they do, I fi nd that they also have an
underlying sense of a lack of belonging… in a world that is
evidently divided by region, language, and food. The Sindhis
have no place to call their own, and still, they have made the
world their home.
As yet another Diwali approaches – it’s time for shopping,
exchanging gifts, playing teen-patti, family get-togethers
phatakas and poojas, and for some - just taking vacations by
heading out of the city. Lights, lanterns, and the age old diyas
bring sparkle to homes, offi ces, and stores.
This issue brings to light a wide spectrum of personalities,
from Sindhis in their twenties, to a gentleman who
celebrated his 100th birthday recently. The cover story
belongs to successful businessman Mithu Sadarangani,
someone who built his company - Sahil International, from
scratch! I hope you will enjoy their stories as much as we did.
Wishing all our readers a very Happy Diwali and a
Prosperous New Year!
