This year we are celebrating 71 years of democracy. The unprecedented domination by Britishers for almost two centuries had left India with the minimum resources to cope up with the situation. But we Indians from mere few percentages of literate citizens, today have reached to the stars and painted our name with pride on the top of the world. In this achievement, education has played a pivotal role. Education in India has many facets, many of which have been forged by different institutions that existed from historic times to the present day. From Gurukul to smart classes we have travelled a long road. Indian education since independence is a bold and challenging experiment in social reconstruction on the basis of freedom and democracy.
