Indian Government has undertaken stake sales exercise in the past, but this year has been one of biggest one done by the government in 5 PSU companies. Buyback by the state-owned PSU which are cash rich are a good way for government to raise money and also for the companies to increase return on equity which can attract more investors. Now by way of offer for sale it gave good returns to PE investors and the company got listed.
The Indian Online Commerce industry is going through some trouble lately especially the online retailers with markdown valuation done multiple times over the last year. We see that consolidation of some of them is imminent to retain their market share and customers over the next few quarters. The music might be getting over for many of them and it seems acquisitions of some verticals will be the only way to keep the music going on.
