Hello Friends,
This issue is themed on our favourite part of a school day—Recess! Because, it stands for all
the fun things school is and can be! So go, make the biggest, the most colourful, the gaudiest
poster you possibly can and list down all the things you intend to enjoy about school, this year.
If you are one of the lost ones, take some tips from Saashi and gang in School’s In ; And
remember—don’t just think about doing things, do it!
Speaking of doing, here’s a question for you all that’s been on my mind for some time—what
do you do, what do you feel when someone challenges you Challenges you to eat your tiffin
faster than anyone else or challenges you to jump as high as you can to reach that fruit
dangling off the tree in your school ground Do you feel the urge to prove them wrong Rub
their noses into the ground with your victory over the challenge Or would you rather slink
away, lest a particularly embarrassing challenge gets thrown your way.
How about pausing to think Will the challenge prove to be fun Check. Will it cause serious
harm or injury Uncheck. Will it test our abilities and stretch them a bit more Check! Check!
The best challenges are the last kind because there are so many new things that we can learn
about ourselves, only if we are willing to test ourselves. We find we can jump a little higher
than we thought we were capable of. Or that we can run a little faster than the pace we got
breathless at. Perhaps we can understand a little better the mysteries of those subjects that
used to flummox us. And then there are the fun challenges—discovering that learning to swim,
to cycle, to dance, to sing and do all the wonderful things which we yearn to, is not so tough
after all. So are you willing Are you up for a challenge I hope you all spend your new school
year testing yourselves and your abilities and having great fun doing it!
Meanwhile, we will be very sad to lose one of our beloved writers, Shruti. Shes moving on to
greener pastures and Im sure you all will join me in wishing her the very best.
Also this July, some of us will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with the sighting of the crescent moon.
So hugs and happiness to all, and loads of goodies to eat!
Affectionately yours,
Rajani
