When we read a story, we usually root for the hero. After all, he or she
represents everything that is good, worthy and attractive in a human
being. But good qualities alone do not make a hero. You need an
equally able or sometimes even better villain to make the hero shine.
Imagine a villain who was easily beatable. Where would the challenge
for the hero be How would he show off his metal prowess and
practiced punches For this reason a hero is only as good as
the villain.
It is in this spirit that we are celebrating November with a Tantri
takeover! For over 30 years, this evil mastermind has tried and failed
to snatch the throne of Hujli. You’d think he’s tired of it by now, but
Tantri is persistent! If ever there was a Tinkle award for diligence,
patience and hard work, it would go to Tantri. And let’s not forget his
loyal and brilliant sidekicks, Vichitrabuddhi and Dushtabuddhi, who are
always ready with something new and exciting to use on Hooja. They
never complain nor give up!
So what makes these men villains and not heroes After all, they seem
to have the same characteristics as the hero. The answer is intention.
As long as Tantri, Dushta and Vichitra work with evil in their hearts,
they will always be the villains and will eventually fail.
Isn’t that what this festive season also teaches us While we all
have talents and abilities, it is up to us to decide whether we want
to act from a place of darkness, or use the ‘light’ in us to brighten the
lives of those around us.
Have a lovely festive season,
Shriya
