This may be the Exam Issue, but let’s make one thing very clear: just
like you, I hate exams. I always have.
Exams can be stressful to say the least, so let’s do an exercise. Open
your mouth and shout out with me, loud and proud: I HATE EXAMS!
Let it ring around the room and echo off the walls. I HATE EXAMS!
Whew, isn’t that better Now that youre feeling a little less frustrated,
its time to get back to those books. Just kidding! This month, Tinkle
Digest is here to make sure you have a successful break
from studies.
Why Because a good break, especially if it is well timed, can go a
long way in actually improving your exam performance. This is true not
just for you, but for grown-ups too! An article in the New York Times
titled “Relax! You’ll be more productive” explains that while it is totally
understandable that you would feel the pressure to do well, and so
study long hours, you must make sure you get enough rest during the
day so you can continue to perform your best.
It is well known that 60 to 90 minutes of sleep during the day can
dramatically improve your memory. But did you know that the human
body is naturally programmed to go from a state of alertness to a
state of fatigue every 90 minutes Scientist K. Anders Ericsson of
Florida State University, who has studied famous chess
players, athletes, actors, musicians and performers, has
found that the best of them typically practise in sets of 90
uninterrupted minutes, split up by short breaks.
Does this mean that if you schedule a short break every 90 minutes to
take a small nap or read a Tinkle Digest, you could actually fare better
in your exams Who knows! But what we do know is that we have a
rocking issue for you anytime you need to say “Time-please” to your
study notes!
So go out there, get on your marks and GO!
Wishing you the very best for your exams,
